More and more, I'm in love with the idea of crafting with things found in nature. So starting today, I give you my "Nature Craft of the Week". This week's project is Pinecone Christmas Trees!

Materials needed:

-pinecones

-green, red, and white (optional) paint

-beads, baubles, pompoms, etc.

-an empty spool or cap

First, paint your pinecones green - this will take a little while if you want to get all the nooks and crannies like I did. The Munchkin was less concerned, as you can see. ;)

Once the paint dries, gather all your pompoms, beads, etc. and them them on as "ornaments". I had one star bead that I used on the top of my tree. For the Munchkin's I used a snowflake-shaped brad, twisting the metal ends tightly around the top of the pine cone.

For my base, I used an old wooden dowel. I had to trim off the pinecone's stem and use a generous amount of glue. Once it dried, I painted it red and added some glitter. For the Munchkin's, I used the red cap from an empty vanilla extract bottle, but you can use any kind of small cap.

For the finishing touch, I wrapped a bit of scrapbook paper around my pinecones for garland - pipe cleaners would also work great too. Then I added a tiny touch of white paint to the tips of my pinecone, for a snow touched look and viola!
