5 Jogging-Stroller Friendly Trails That Are Extra Beautiful in the Fall

Before I had the Munchkin, I just didn't "get" running, but soon after becoming a momma, the jogging stroller became my best friend. And even though it's now rare for the Munchkin to sit still long enough to be in the stroller, I'm always on the lookout for new stroller-friendly trails. We're hitting peak leaf season right now too, so what better time to take your kiddos for a stroll or jog outside? Here are some colorful places to go:

1. Heads Pond/Hooksett Rail Trail (parking area located right off route 3 in Hooksett across from Green's Marine) This spot can be easy to miss, but it does have a trail sign and dirt and gravel parking lot. After a sharp dip down, this rail trail is very flat and straight. If you start to the left and go through the tunnel, the trail is intersected by a main road in about a half mile with not too much to see. But if you go right, you'll see a couple beaver dams about a third of a mile down. The trail is also peppered with signs about the local wildlife and their habitats. This dog-friendly trail goes on for about a mile and a half.
2. Livingston Park /Dorrs Pond (roughly 244 Hooksett Rd, Manchester) This mile-long wooded trail loops around Dorrs Pond and is popular with dog walkers and joggers, with lots of benches along your way to stop and visit with the ducks (just don't feed them). I usually start the trail to the left of the facilities/bathroom building - that way you end the trail at the beginning of the playground.

3. East Candia Depot Rail Trail (roughly 80 Depot Road, Candia) This portion of the 20+ mile Rockingham Recreational Rail Trail can take you on a picturesque loop around a pond, with remnants of an old sawmill surrounding it, and several lounge chairs scattered about. From the gravel parking lot, around the loop is about a mile one way, but if you're looking for a longer run, you can veer to either side of the loop and take the trail all the way to Lake Massabesic in Manchester or Newfields...if you really want to.

4. Mine Falls Park, Nashua Hidden behind the YMCA, you'll find one of the entrances to this 325 acre, thickly wooded park. The trails vary from packed down rocks and big roots, to smooth pavement. I used to do the branch that winds along Mill Pond and behind the high school - very stroller friendly.
5 South Manchester Rail Trail I discovered this trail by accident one day after stopping at the (now closed) Shaw's supermarket on South Willow Street. You can pick up part of the trail behind the building. Mostly flat and entirely paved, this trail actually starts just before the old Shaw's parking lot (where the DMV is) and runs behind Precourt park and Nutt Pond, ending shortly after Gold Street, almost two and a half miles.
